Commercial grounds maintenance engineers maintain the external environments of office parks, retail centres, hospitals, schools, and public sector estates. Work covers grass cutting, hedge trimming, seasonal planting, hard landscape maintenance, and winter gritting. Roles range from grounds operatives on single large sites to mobile supervisors managing multiple client contracts.

PA1 and PA6 (NPTC certificates of competence) are required for pesticide and herbicide application. Many supervisory roles also expect a relevant Level 2 or Level 3 horticulture qualification (RHS, City & Guilds 0600) and CSCS card. Salaries range from £22,000–£28,000 for operatives to £30,000–£40,000 for experienced team leaders and contract supervisors.
