Water hygiene engineers manage legionella and waterborne pathogen risk in commercial and public sector buildings. Core duties include ACOP L8 risk assessments, water temperature monitoring, TMV servicing, cooling tower treatment and inspection, and remedial disinfection works. Many roles involve planned service visits across healthcare, hospitality, and public sector estates.

City & Guilds 6150 (Water Hygiene) or equivalent BOHS P901/W001 qualifications are typically required for legionella risk assessors. Water treatment technicians often hold City & Guilds 6151 or BWCA membership. Cooling tower operatives may require specific WTA-approved training. Salaries range from £28,000–£38,000 for technicians to £42,000–£55,000 for senior risk assessors and account managers.
